The Saint Andrew Chorale will conclude its 62nd Season with one of Handel’s choral works – an oratorio filled with jubilant choruses and stirring arias which was justifiably one of the composer’s most popular works during his lifetime. Based on the First Book of Maccabees, the narrative of the work surrounds the Jewish resistance to the Syrian conquests of Judea. The work closes in triumph, but also in the hope for true and lasting peace.
